working on my fitness

I used to be so fitness oriented, and it bothers me that I have gotten away from my disciplined ways.  In a effort to keep myself accountable for workouts, I plan to share my weekly workout schedule with you all.  This will keep me motivated to follow through with the exercise, and who knows, maybe it will inspire you to be more active too!

This week’s schedule is a little ambitious for me, but I want to start off strong and challenge myself a little.

The weather has been great for running outside, so there shouldn’t be any excuses to not get out there and run!

I may never get back to my college weight, but at least I can get back to the same level of fitness.

Chia seeds are a good source of fiber and healthy omega-3 fatty acids.  I discovered these seeds through reading healthy living blogs.  I bought mine at the grocery store, but there are many places you can buy them online as well.

I like to enjoy these seeds with my yogurt, but since they don’t taste like anything, you can use them as a topping or addition to pretty much any food.

I encourage you to try some out today!  And, if you don’t like them, you can always grow a chia pet 🙂

hot yoga

On Thursday, I tried my very first hot yoga class and loved it!  It is a 90 minute class held in a 105 degree room with 40% humidity.  Hot stuff!  But I would much rather be too hot than too cold!  I didn’t take any pictures in class, because I didn’t want to be “that girl”, but I can ensure you that there were plenty of scantily clad people in the room ready to practice yoga (and even more of them in the locker room!  Holy naked people!).  At first, I thought that there were too many people in the small room and that I wouldn’t be able to focus, but as soon as we got started, I forgot all about them.

I have never sweat so much in my life, but I was left with an amazing feeling at the end of the 90 minutes.  My favorite part of the class was the silent mediation time at the end of the class.  As you can imagine, I don’t get too many silent moments throughout my day with the girls, so that silence was the best sound I heard all day!  Namaste!

just call me grandma

The older I get, the more set in my ways I become.  I guess this is completely normal, but sometimes I feel like I don’t even recognize myself anymore!

I find myself wearing my glasses more often.  [in an effort to keep the readers that I do have, no picture of this will be provided]

My feet are always cold, making me want to wear these lovely slippers all the time.  My mom has matching ones.  That’s how bad it is.  I even pack them in the diaper bag to change into when i go certain places (Mom’s and Mercedes’ houses).

My latest thing is drinking (caffeine free) tea at night.

That’s right- just call me grandma!  Blake is one lucky guy!

mini garlic monkey bread

The other day when I made cheesy vegetable chowder, I also made mini garlic monkey bread.  This is another recipe compliments of Pinterest.  These mini breads look awesome but, unfortunately, taste just okay.

I will still share the recipe, but just remember- I warned you that they look better than they taste!

Mini Garlic Monkey Bread

  • 1 can buttermilk biscuits
  • 3 Tbsp butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp dried parsley
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/8 cup shredded Parmesan cheese plus 2 Tbsp. additional to sprinkle on top

Cut biscuits into 4 pieces and place in a bowl.

Combine the melted butter, garlic, parsley, and 1/8 cup Parmesan cheese together and pour over the biscuit pieces.  Gently toss the biscuit pieces to get evenly coated with the butter mixture.  Using a 12 cup muffin tin, place 6 pieces of the coated biscuit dough into each muffin cup. Use the additional 2 Tbsp of Parmesan cheese to sprinkle on top of the breads in the muffin cups.

Bake at 400 degrees for 12-14 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm and try to enjoy!

fruit lovers

Our house is always full of fruit- a favorite of mine and Macy’s.  I always keep fresh fruit cut up in the refrigerator, which makes great snacks for hungry little girls (and big girls too!).

Looks like Avery wants in on the fruit action.  BTW- if you don’t have one of these mesh feeders for your baby, I recommend getting one.  They are the best!
