a blog about my busy little life as a mom

spot

Avery recently had her first ear infection which was treated with amoxicillin.  Little did we know that she is allergic!  Last Thursday morning, I noticed a few spots on her neck but didn’t think much of it.  But by the afternoon, her entire chest and back was covered in little red spots.  I called our pediatrician right away, but they still didn’t have power so the doctors were not in the office.  Luckily, I had the trusty internet to diagnose my little patient.  After speaking with the doctor, we immediately stopped using the amoxicillin and gave her a very small dose of children’s Benadryl to help with the allergic reaction.

I didn’t get a good picture of her whole body, but you can get an idea of what my little “spot” looked like for a few days.  The rash eventually spread to her face, hands, and feet before going away.  Thankfully, she was her happy little self throughout the outbreak.

photo (1)Her spots are almost completely gone now and her ear infection is all cleared up.  In the future, no penicillin for this girl!

  1. My oldest son is allergic to amoxilcillin (sp?)…as well as any drug that contains penicillin or its relatives! Thankfully, he outgrew chronic ear/sinus problems around age 2. 🙂

  2. She looks cute even covered in spots, and happy, too.
