mexico!

Blake and I went to Mexico last weekend with another couple and had such a fabulous time!  The girls stayed home with their grandmas, so we were able to do whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted, and that felt amazing!SAM_4069

As soon as we stepped off the plane, the boys were more than happy to get us a couple refreshing beverages!

We stayed at the Excellence Riviera Cancun, which was beautiful!  I would highly recommend this resort to everyone looking for a relaxing vacation.  Just a heads up- the median age at this resort is probably 55, but that didn’t seem to cramp our style one bit.  We met some great people who we ended  up having A LOT of fun with.

Stef and I pretty much soaked up the rays while the boys soaked up the booze.  The swim up bar opened at 10 each day and these two were usually the first in line.

We had a few really good meals while we were there.  Since we were only there for four days, we tried to have an appetizer at one restaurant and then dinner at another.  Pretty much everything we had was good (though not amazing) and the French restaurant was the only one that was disappointing.SAM_4077

my cup of tea

I’ve recently rearranged my daily routine a bit and so far I am loving it!  I used to almost always wait until the girls afternoon naptime to get my workout in, but now I have been conquering it mid-morning, which frees up my afternoon for some me time.  Usually all I do is clean a little, go on my computer, and then enjoy a cup of tea.  Tea is a new treat for me, but I am finding it to be very relaxing.  Perfect for my afternoon break from a very demanding job Smile

chocolate chip, peanut butter, and pretzel cookies

It’s only the third Friday in, and I already forgot to share a recipe yesterday…  Oops!  I think I was so distracted by this snowstorm (which we barely got) to post yesterday.

Hope that these cookies are tasty enough to make you forgive me!

Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, and Pretzel Cookies

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks
  • 1 cup peanut butter chips
  • 1 cup crushed pretzels

Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl.

In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract until creamy. Add eggs. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chips and pretzels. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto baking sheets.photo (22)

Bake at 375 for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy!image (21)The salty and sweet combo of these cookies was amazing!  I may try adding caramel chunks next time instead of the peanut butter chips for a little twist on this recipe.  YUM!image (23)

goldilocks and the three bears

I recently told you of my new found love for sewing, so of course I have been busy with a few little projects.  This is another one that I had planned on having ready by Christmas morning that didn’t work out, but at least it is done now!

I was inspired by this puppet theater from Land of Nod.

I like the colors of mine much better though, obviously, and I used a tension rod to hang ours instead of the ties.  This way we don’t have to put any nail holes in the wall to hang our theater and also it can easily be hung in any doorway.  Here is (a not so good picture of) my finished product:

My cost was around $18 for the fabric and rod.  The Land of Nod one sells for $39. , so I was able to save a little bit of money.  I may add pockets to ours like they have shown, but I’m not sure if I should put them on the front or back of the theater yet.  Land of Nod also sell the cutest puppets to go with the theater.  I bought Goldilocks and the Three bears for our little ones Smile

The Three Little Pigs set is also adorable!

exciting new endeavor

I have some very exciting news!  And no, I am not pregnant!  I am now officially blogging for Local Flair magazine! Smile  You may remember hearing about this magazine from my little modeling gig

cradle upgrade

I passed by the same antique store every day eyeing up this cradle that I wanted to buy for Avery’s baby doll to sleep in, but it took me weeks before I finally stopped to ask how much.  When she said $15, I was sold!

I sanded it down and then spray painted it yellow, applying three light coats of paint.

Next, I bought a pillow from Target to use as the mattress since I could not find a cradle mattress that was the right size.  I bought some fabric on Etsy and got to work on sewing a cover for it. I am very new to using a sewing machine, so I was quite proud of myself for taking on t his project!

I used a chevron print for the top and polka dots (my fav!) for the sides.  I then stapled the fabric around the pillow to a board that fit into the cradle.
