a blog about my busy little life as a mom

from dungeon to playroom

We recently had our basement refinished, which has been one of the best decisions that we have made.  I have wanted a playroom for the girls ever since they started accumulating toys, and now that dream is a reality!2013-01-212

Before, I didn’t even know if finishing our basement was a possibility.  We used to get a lot of water in it and even with a sump pump, it never seemed like a space that we would be able to use.  We eventually learned of the B-Dry System and had that installed.  So far, it has worked like a charm!  We had to wait at least six months after installing the system to finish it off, ensuring there were no leaks.

Since Blake takes forever to do projects is pretty busy, we decided to hire a contractor for this BIG project.  The whole room needed to be framed, sheet-rocked, painted, etc, so it was definitely a good decision to hire someone to do it for us.

My laundry room isn’t ready for it’s big reveal yet, since we plan to install some cabinets, but it’s looking like this right now, which is a HUGE improvement from before!

We already had the furniture (couch was in Blake’s office and gray chair was in our bedroom) and I had a friend make the printed pillows and ordered the pink chevron printed ones.  We also ordered the gray chevron ottoman from Joss and Main, which is great because it creates some extra seating, but also doubles as storage for blankets (there’s no heat in the room as of now).   This may be my new favorite space in the house!

Do you have a play room??

  1. Cozy and comfy.

thankfully the house we just bought came equipped with a ‘finished’ basement.
…..or else it would never get checked off the “TO DO”
