nail craze

First of all, allow me to introduce myself.  I’m Rita Martin, mom to two (soon to be three), living in the Pocono Mountains.  I also blog over at Local Flair Magazine and my own personal blog.  I hope you’ll follow along with this, my newest adventure, as I blog each month about beauty, health, and fashion for one of my favorite local places, Pure Day Spa.

Recently, it seems like nail polish and manicures are all the rage.  I’ll admit, I have fallen victim to this trend and become a little bit obsessed myself!  Pinterest is full of great ideas, but you can really be creative.  I love to do separate colors on my hands and feet, instead of always matching.  Here’s a great chart to show some coordinating color pairings.

I also love the idea of an “accent nail.”  I tried it on my pointer finger, but found that I much prefer my accent nail to be on my ring finger.

Polka dots have been my favorite for as long as I can remember, so I love this polka dotted mani!

Some others ideas I have found online are pretty awesome, but a little too complicated to try at home.  Leave these ones to the professionals!

First she was Avery.
Then she was Kiwi.
Next she was Puffin.
And now she is Mr.Butters.

Which nickname is your favorite? I prefer Kiwi, but Mr.Butters cracks me up!

spicy sausage pasta

Last night, I tried out a new recipe from Pinterest for dinner.  The original can be found here.  I liked it a lot and Blake couldn’t stop raving about how delicious it was.  I’m pretty sure he went back for thirds!  It was a little too spicy for my kids, but they are sensitive to spicy things, so some kids may like it.  It was a relatively easy, yummy dinner that I’ll definitely be making again.

Spicy Sausage Pasta

1 tbsp olive oil
1 lb smoked sausage
1.5 cups diced onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
1 (10 oz) can Rotel tomatoes and green chiles, Mild
1/2 cup heavy cream
8 oz pasta (i used campanelle, but penne would work great too)
1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper, each
1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shreddedphoto (7)

1.Add olive oil to a large skillet over medium high heat until hot.  Add sausage and onions and cook until lightly browned, about 4 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

2. Add broth, tomatoes, cream, pasta, salt and pepper and stir.  Bring to a boil, cover skillet, and reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer until pasta is tender, about 15 minutes.

3. Remove skillet from heat and stir in 1/2 cup cheese. Serve, topping with remaining cheese.

zucchini overload!

My mom just called and said she’s sending me some more zucchini from her garden!  Little does she know that the zucchini she gave me last week is still in the fridge.  Well, I guess she knows now.  Sorry Mom!  So, to put all of this zucchini to good use, I searched my Pinterest page and found all of these delicious ways to enjoy zucchini.
